Live from the stage/my workspace

Brittany E. Lampe

I have been an artist my whole life; I decided to pursue a career in art after graduation from DAAP, at the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Fresh out of college, I was freelancing a bit while I worked other jobs, and moved to North Carolina with my husband. We were high school sweethearts, and with him being in the military I knew we would be moving around quite a bit. I continued to work the odd job here and there as a waitress, barista, paint and sip teacher, and still trying desperately to fall into what I believed an "artist" should be doing.

Forced creativity has never worked for me. I struggled for years after graduating to figure out what kind of work I wanted to make- and finally, the opportunity to move overseas presented itself through the military- we got stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Little did I know this would kick start an intense love of travel, which was where my inspiration was hiding all along. Something about seeing other cultures and colors unfold before my eyes felt so natural to paint- so I knew that was what I should be creating at this time.

However, creation is fluid, and there are many more years to let new inspirations come naturally- but for now I am travel-focused  exploding with color, pattern, and culture in my work.
